Reynaldo "Rey" Delafuente passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 in Clear Lake, Texas, just one day before his 85th birthday. He was born on June 27, 1940, in Brownsville, Texas, to his father, Jose Delafuente, and mother Severa Barbosa.
Rey lived a long, full life rooted in love, laughter, and loyalty. He was married to the love of his life, Naomi Delafuente, for over 60 years. Together, they built a legacy that continues through their children: Tina Delafuente, Reynaldo Jr. Delafuente, Angel Delafuente, and Christopher Delafuente.
A proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Rey is survived by his grandchildren-Megan Diaz, JP Doyal, Taylor Delafuente, Anthony Delafuente, and Angeliya Delafuente-and his great-grandchildren-Xavier Ponce, AJ Ponce, Thalia Hernandez, Bronx Hernandez, Emery Doyal, Makayla Delafuente, Brooklyn Delafuente, and Malakai Delafuente.
Rey wore many hats throughout his life, but his favorite job was being a truck driver. Nothing brought him more peace than hitting the open road in his big rig, music playing, windows down, and freedom stretching out in front of him. He lived in Ohio and Michigan before settling in Texas, where he helped create a home for generations of family to grow and thrive.
To know Rey was to laugh. He never met a stranger and always had a one-liner ready-even if he was calling you by the wrong name on purpose just to mess with you. His personality was larger than life, and his presence could light up any room. He was the kind of man who had a story for every occasion, a joke for every moment, and a heart that made you feel like family whether you were blood or not.
He was the rock of our family-the one who always showed up, the one you could always count on. Loyal to his core, authentic in every way, Rey never turned his back on anyone. He helped raise so many of us, shaping our lives with wisdom, humor, and love. Rey was a Christian and a man of faith. His belief in God guided his steps, and we take comfort knowing he is now resting in eternal peace.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Compean Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.
