Maria de Jesus "Chita" Garcia

12/22/1929 ~ 08/17/2022

Maria de Jesus was born in Rosebud, County of Falls, Texas. The oldest of 9 children born to Antonio and Fidencia Marines. At the age of 7 her parents were granted a Service of Migration by the Mexican Government in the form of $300 Mexican pesos to cultivate their land. The family made their way to the State of Coahuila and eventually ended up in the State of Tamaulipas. There they lived off their land by harvesting corn and cotton; planting just about any fruit and vegetable available to us now. There was always an abundance of cow milk, goat milk, eggs, cheese & butter. Not to mention all the fruit trees. Pomegranates? Old news to this family, been eating them since the 1950's. It was a rich life - and she didn't know it. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Domingo Garcia. He had fallen under the same situation - born in Runge, County of Karnes, Texas and family migrated under the Service of Migration. After 6 children, they decided to make their way back to the U.S., and chose Houston, Texas as their destination, where their 7th child was born.

Maria de Jesus was a gentle , kind human being. Always giving and supporting her 8 siblings, 7 children, helped babysit 20 grandchildren & some of the 35 great grandchildren - no energy left for the great-great grandchild. She was always there to lend an ear to nieces and nephews or anyone who just needed to talk. She was a small lady with strong values and her unconditional love was greater than anyone can imagine. She leaves us all with a sad heart - but so many valuable life lessons and we are forever grateful that the Lord allowed her to be with us 92+ years. She taught us the most important thing in life is family unity and was always the happiest at our family gatherings.
