Obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Maria de Lourdes Serna, age 60, who was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 14, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Maria was born on November 17, 1965, in San Benito, Texas.

Maria was truly one of a kind—a genuine, down-to-earth woman whose joyful spirit could brighten any room. She was the life of the party, always ready with a joke, a smile, or a laugh. She had a special way of making those around her feel welcome and loved, and anyone who knew Maria knew there was never a dull moment when she was around.

Maria found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved to dance, enjoyed her Whataburger, and most of all, treasured spending time with the people she loved. Her family was the center of her world, and her grandchildren held an especially precious place in her heart.

One of the many ways Maria showed her love was through cooking. She loved preparing meals for everyone and bringing family and friends together around the table. Her cooking will be deeply missed, especially her famous rice, which everyone loved. For Maria, food was more than a meal—it was another way to care for the people who meant the most to her.

Maria will be remembered for her beautiful sense of humor, her warm and genuine personality, her love of dancing, and the countless smiles and laughs she brought into the lives of others. Her presence was unforgettable, and the memories she created will continue to bring comfort and joy to those who loved her.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents and siblings.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Michael Serna and Angela Castillo; her daughter, Michelle Serna and her husband, Tony Villagran; her brother, Richard Serna; and her beloved grandchildren, Jasmine Sandoval, Christian Perez, Julissa Contreras, Lizbeth Contreras, Jennifer Contreras, Nathalie Cordova, Giselle Cordova, Miranda Nuncio, Damian Cordova, Nichole Romo, Ruben Romo, and Angel Romo.

Although Maria's earthly journey has come to an end, the love, laughter, and joy she gave so freely will live on through her family and everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Her family will remember the sound of her laughter, the meals she lovingly prepared, the music that made her dance, and the way she could make an ordinary gathering feel like a celebration.

Maria will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May her family find comfort in knowing that she has been called home to her Lord and Savior, and may her beautiful memory live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Rest peacefully, Maria. Your laughter, love, and unforgettable spirit will remain with us always.
