Marcelo Salinas Sendejo, 75, was born on January 10, 1950, in McAllen, Texas, and entered eternal rest on May 28, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Marcelo was a devoted father, cherished brother, beloved uncle, and loyal friend whose warm spirit and kind heart touched all who knew him.
Marcelo was a proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor from May 28, 1970, to January 5, 1972, as an Armor Recon Specialist. He was a recipient of both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force.
While serving as a door gunner aboard a scout helicopter on a reconnaissance mission near Gio Linh, Private First Class Sendejo’s aircraft came under heavy fire and ultimately crashed. Despite suffering a fractured leg and being under enemy fire, he heroically freed his pinned crewmates from the burning wreckage, administered first aid, and returned fire until rescue arrived. His extraordinary bravery reflected the highest traditions of military service and brought great credit to himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
Beyond his service, Marcelo was a big-hearted and loving father, son, brother, and uncle. He lived life to the fullest—always laughing, making jokes, enjoying cartoons, fishing, and sharing his love and charm with those around him. He especially cherished being a father. Marcelo's light-hearted spirit and courageous heart will forever live on in the memories of those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto Sendejo Sr. and Aurelia S. Sendejo; his brothers, Billy Robbins and Eloy Sendejo; and his sisters, Bertha Alisa Robbins and Frances Sendejo.
Marcelo leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and treasured memories. He is survived by his son, Marcelo Sendejo Jr.; his daughter, Lillie Sendejo Guichard, and her husband, Vicente; his brothers, Alberto Sendejo Jr. and Daniel Sendejo; and his sisters, Mary Andrade, Juanita Tejada, Margarita Darby, Lulu Tinoco, Lydia Truet, Monica Sendejo, and Rebecca Rao.
He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends whose lives he enriched with his presence, generosity, and unwavering support.
Marcelo’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
