Julian Alonso Gomez, 90, was born on June 19, 1935, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, and entered eternal rest on August 9, 2025, in Houston, Texas.
Julian was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. Family was always at the center of his life—he never missed an event for his children and even coached their little league baseball teams. Known affectionately as “El hombre de Fierro”—The Man of Steel—he loved to show off his strength by lifting his children with one finger or carrying one on each side. This playful tradition continued with his grandchildren, and even later in life he would flex his biceps, proudly declaring he was still stronger than most.
In the early 1970s, Julian discovered his passion for running. He challenged himself with his first Marathon/Run in 1988 and went on to compete in many more, often placing first or second. One of his final marathons was in 2017, a true testament to his strength and determination. His favorite advice was, “Exercise is the best thing you can do to stay healthy and in good shape—ask any doctor,” he would say. His determination was unmatched, and his perseverance was as strong as a thousand men. His second piece of advice, always delivered with his trademark seriousness, was, “Don’t trust nobody.”
A lifelong boxing enthusiast, Julian never missed a good fight—whether old classics or new bouts. He was funny, wise, dedicated, and ambitious. Above all, he cherished his family, taking immense pride in his children and delighting in his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Julian is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria del Socorro, and his son, Jesus Javier. He leaves behind to treasure his memory his children: Veronica and husband Faruk, Orlando and wife Elsa, and Marybel and husband Juan; his grandchildren: Jazmin and husband Leander, Julian Caleb, Jaidan Javier, Heaven Lee, Gabriel Osias, Mia, and Orlando II; as well as many other cherished family members and dear friends.
