Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jose Federico Alvarez Bernal was born on May 5, 1948, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, and passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jose was known for his stubbornness, his quick wit, and his ability to find humor even during life's hardest moments. Proud of his roots, he remained an avid Rayados de Monterrey fan throughout his life and rarely missed the chance to watch his beloved team play. He loved soccer, always had an opinion about his food, had a sweet tooth that never seemed to go away, and could usually be counted on to make those around him laugh.

Even after multiple amputations and years of health challenges, Jose never completely lost his sense of humor. One story his family will never forget was after one of his surgeries when he jokingly asked the nurses if he could take his amputated foot home so they could make menudo. That was Jose-finding a way to laugh even in difficult circumstances.

Like many families, life wasn't always perfect, but Jose was loved, and his passing leaves behind memories that those who knew him will carry in their own way.

He is survived by his children, Simon Alvarez, Marcos Alvarez, Monica Alvarez, and Melissa Alvarez; his grandchildren, Christopher Benitez, Jacob Benitez, Alexis Alvarez, Aliyah Alvarez, and Grace Garcia; and his former wife, Martha Medellin, who continued to help care for him and made sure he got to many of his medical appointments.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for Jose throughout his journey. A special thank you to his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Alvarez, whose patience, compassion, and selfless dedication as his full-time caregiver allowed him to remain surrounded by family and receive exceptional care during the final chapter of his life. We are also deeply grateful to our family and friends for every visit, every prayer, every act of kindness, and every word of encouragement shown to Jose and to our family during this difficult time. Your love and support will never be forgotten.

Jose's life was far from ordinary, and those who knew him will remember him in their own unique way. While we grieve his loss, we also find peace in knowing his suffering has come to an end. As a family, we place our hope in God's promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and trust that Jose is now at peace in His presence.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
