Joanna Dominguez Rubio

Joanna Dominguez Rubio, 62, passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday morning, July 31st, 2025.

She was born on July 10, 1963, in Houston, Texas, to John Jr. and Frances Dominguez. Raised in the close-knit neighborhood of Pecan Park, she enjoyed a joyful childhood surrounded by her sisters and cousins—bonds that remained strong throughout her life. Known for her punctuality, structure, and tidiness, she was often regarded as the "perfect daughter." She proudly participated in the Girl Scouts, an experience that helped shape her values and character. A proud Milby Buff, she formed lifelong friendships during her high school years, friendships that she treasured deeply.

Joanna had a deep love for travel, especially when it meant sharing adventures with her family. One of her most treasured journeys was a memorable trip to Italy with 35 beloved family members. She also enjoyed traveling with her coworkers and baby brother, John III, creating special memories along the way. Joanna's favorite travels include incredible places like Turkey, Germany, Chicago, Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, Las Vegas, and many more. But more than the destinations, it was the company that made each trip meaningful. Every year, she made it a tradition to plan a family vacation with her children and grandchildren—precious moments that became lasting memories. Her joy for life and dedication to family were felt most vividly in these shared experiences, where laughter, love, and adventure came together.

Her most cherished role in life was being a mother to her four children. She was a proud Aggie mom, actively involved in Aggie Mom meetings, camp, and other events. She was equally proud to be a UH mom—Go Coogs! With her unmistakably “loud” and loving voice, she encouraged her nieces and nephews to pursue higher education as well. Saturday mornings were a special time for her, filled with the excitement of college football, the comforting aroma of her homemade breakfasts, and her favorite lattes.

For the past 25 years, she was a devoted member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. She generously gave her time as a volunteer, especially in helping to organize the bake sale at the church’s annual bazaar. Her love for her church was evident in the joy she found in the shared smiles and warm fellowship of its members.

Joanna is survived by her parents, John Jr. and Frances Dominguez; son, Reynaldo Rubio Jr.; daughter, Racine and her husband Eric Moreno; daughter, Raquel and her husband Stuart Watkins; son, Ryan Rubio; grandchildren, Eric Moreno, Stevie Watkins, Riley Moreno, and two more on the way; sister, Theresa and her husband Simon Gonzales; sister, Cindy Alaniz; sister, Laura and her husband Javier Gonzalez; brother, John and his wife Vicky Dominguez; and her many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the flowers, food, visits, concerns, literally hundreds of offers of assistance, and most of all the many, many prayers offered upon her behalf.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, with a Vigil and Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m., led by Deacon Pittman.

The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
