Gonzala “Chala” Garza, 73, entered eternal rest on June 6, 2025, in Baytown, Texas. Born on January 10, 1952, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God. Her unwavering love for her family and deep-rooted faith were the cornerstones of her life.
Known affectionately as Chala, Gonzala had a nurturing spirit and a gift for growing and caring for plants and birds, reflecting her gentle and attentive nature. Strong-willed and courageous, her only true vulnerability was the immense love she carried for her husband and family. She brought joy and unity to all who knew her and was the heart and soul of her family — a steadfast presence through life’s trials, always showing grace and strength.
Chala also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially the occasional visit to the casino where she enjoyed playing the slot machines. Yet, her greatest treasures were the memories shared with loved ones and the bonds she nurtured with enduring warmth.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Alonso Garza Sr.; her son, Alonso Garza Jr., and his wife Lorena; her daughter, Marta Leticia Alanis, and her husband Hector; her brothers, Jesus and Cruz Moreno; and her sisters, Guadalupe Garcia, Carmela Garcia, and Teresa Ibarra. Her legacy also lives on in her grandchildren: Marc Anthony, Jacqueline, Hector III, Marq Anthony, Michael Alexander, Mia Olivia, Bella Lyn, and Amado Max; and her great-grandson, Hector Abelardo.
Chala will also be remembered fondly by many other cherished family members and dear friends. Her presence, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
