Elias "Sonny" Martinez, Jr.

Elias “Sonny” Martinez, Jr., 56, was born on April 7, 1961 in Houston, Texas and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2017 in Houston, Texas while surrounded by his loving family.  He was a devoted Catholic and a man of Faith; 10 ^th generation Texan and 2 ^nd generation First Responder.  Sonny was proud to serve as a Texas Peace Officer for the past 35 years.  He served The Metropolitan Transit Authority Police Department for more than 25 years.  His accomplishments include: Master Peace Officer, Solo Motorcycle Officer, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Instructor, Special Operations Response Team Operator, and DWI Task Force.  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elias C. Martinez, Sr. and Rose R. Martinez and by his nephew, Gabriel Celestino Gomez.  Sonny leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving wife of 35 years, Jodi S. Martinez; his sons, Stephen Elias Martinez and Joshua Ryan Martinez; his sister, Melissa Marie Martinez; his grandson, Elias Ace Martinez; his half sisters, Edolina Pettus and Evangelina Garcia; many other relatives and friends, and a “Host of the Brotherhood of Police Officers”.  Sonny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend that will be dearly missed by all who he touched.
