Charlie Eloy Castillo, Sr.

June 23, 1953 — July 19, 2024

Houston, TX

Charlie Eloy Castillo, Sr.

Charles (Charlie) Eloy Castillo was born June 23, 1953 to Julia and Nash Castillo in Denver, Colorado. The second oldest of four boys and one girl, Charlie grew up as much in Denver as he did in the Rocky Mountains, hunting and fishing.

Charlie studied mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. After graduation, he was hired by Shell Oil relocating to Ventura, California and the Houston, Texas which became his home. After Shell Oil he worked for a few companies landing at Wood Group which he absolutely loved. His work in oil and gas took him across the globe for many decades with exciting tales he shared with his family. He retired in 2020.

It was not only his career which kept him in Houston, but his family as well. In 1981, he met and later married Imelda Reyes, daughter of Janie and Frumencio Reyes in 1983. They went on to welcome four beautiful children into their lives, Maria Alicia in 1984, Charles Eloy, Jr. in 1985, Tomas Andres in 1987, and finally Francisco Frumencio in 1990.

Charlie was a dedicated family man even with all his travels. He always made time to be involved in his children's life be it a road trip driver, Boy Scout chaperone, watching or helping coach the sports the kids were part of. He taught the kids how to fish, hunt, work on cars, and do general handy work around the house.

Charlie was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, receiving treatment at Texas Oncology and later MD Anderson, always wanting to spend as much time with his family and grandchildren as possible. He led an independent life up till May 16th and passed away peacefully on July 19th with Imelda at his side watching the Houston Astros.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father Nash, his brother, Edward, and his father-in-law Frumencio. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Imelda and their family, Maria, Carlos (Meredith), Tomas (Meghan), Francisco (Shelby), and three grandchildren, Miriam Castillo, Pia Castillo, and Lazaro Castillo, his mother Julia (93 years old), his mother-in-law Janie Reyes, his siblings, Mike (Kaye), Chris (Laureen), and Rainbow, his nieces Lorelai and Eliana and nephew Micah. Sister-in-law Donna Mendez (Paul) and nieces Bianca and Francesca Mendez.

Charlie will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the joy and love he shared with his family and friends. His stories, music, and smiles will continue to resonate in the hears of all who knew him. Rest in peace sweet Charlie.
