Carmen Michel

Carmen Michel, 70, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, due to complications from a sudden lung condition (ARDS). She left this world surrounded by the love and prayers that she so freely offered to others throughout her life.

 Carmen’s life was defined by her deep devotion to her faith and her family. She cherished every moment spent around a full dinner table, sharing food, laughter, and stories. A faithful parishioner, Carmen enjoyed attending Mass, volunteering at church, and staying connected through long, joyful phone calls with her sisters. She had a natural gift for encouragement, always helping others see the good, even in the most difficult moments. 

Carmen is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Manuel Michel; her children Veronica Ramos and husband Fernando Ramos, Manuel Michel, Jr. and wife Joanna Michel, and Anthony Michel and wife Alejandra Michel; and her beloved grandchildren Victor, Marco, Salome, Amado, and Anthony II. She is also survived by her siblings Fernando Guzman, Teresa Rubio, Jose Guzman, Maria Elena Guzman, Patricia Guzman, Maria Luisa Guzman, Irma Guzman, Rosalba Guzman, and Mario Guzman. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Maria Guzman, her sisters Margarita, Guadalupe, and Angelina, and her brother Antonio.

 Born on January 6th in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Carmen grew up in a lively household with her parents and 11 siblings. Surrounded by eight sisters, later affectionately known as “Las Guzmán”, their sisterhood was marked by deep affection, unbreakable loyalty, and a shared passion for dancing. Growing up in such a large family taught Carmen resilience and independence from an early age. Her sisters lovingly described her as “la aventada”—the brave one, the bold one—always willing to take the first step. Despite the challenges of a bustling household, she always felt deeply loved and supported.

 At the age of 22, Carmen courageously followed the American Dream and immigrated to the United States. She often shared this part of her story with her children, wanting them to understand the importance of her roots and the legacy she hoped to pass on. Her journey inspired her lifelong empathy for others in similar situations. Many people remember Carmen with gratitude for the kindness she extended during their most difficult times.

 Carmen eventually settled in Chicago, where she met a charming young man named Manuel Michel. Their connection was immediate and profound. After only six months, they married in March 1981 and began a beautiful partnership that strengthened over nearly 45 years. They later moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised their three children and built a life filled with love, faith, and perseverance.

 Life in Houston was good, full of joy, but not without the challenges that shaped a strong and devoted family. In 2010, Carmen proudly earned her high school diploma and completed a cosmetology course, which led her to enjoy her last job as a beauty sales consultant. She loved building relationships, helping others feel confident, and staying current with hair trends. After three decades in Houston, Carmen and Manuel moved to Bedias, Texas, where she embraced retired life and discovered a newfound love for the slower rhythm of country living. 

The greatest joy of Carmen’s life came with the arrival of her grandchildren, Victor, Marco, Salome, Amado, and Anthony II. Becoming a grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness. She embraced the role with her whole heart: babysitting, sewing for them, hosting sleepovers filled with late-night laughter and delicious food, and always being ready to help with birthday parties, school events, and field trips. Carmen delighted in her grandchildren as deeply as she had delighted in raising her own children.

 In keeping with her lifelong spirit of generosity, Carmen became an organ donor. Continuing to give even in her final moments. Her right kidney was donated to a 68-year-old woman in Texas, and her left kidney to a 17-year-old Texan. Through these gifts, Carmen’s legacy of compassion lives on, bringing hope and renewed life to others.

 Carmen was profoundly grateful for her life, it was filled with meaningful experiences, a loving family, and many dear friends. She truly embodied the motto of a life well lived. Her warmth, strength, and generosity will be remembered always.

Carmen Michel, de 70 años, falleció pacíficamente el 18 de marzo de 2026 debido a complicaciones por una condición pulmonar repentina (ARDS). Partió rodeada del amor y las oraciones que ella misma ofreció generosamente a los demás durante toda su vida.

La vida de Carmen estuvo marcada por su profunda devoción a su fe y a su familia. Disfrutaba cada momento alrededor de una mesa llena de comida, risas y conversaciones. Fiel asistente a misa, Carmen también dedicó gran parte de su tiempo a servir en su iglesia y a mantenerse unida a sus hermanas a través de largas y alegres llamadas telefónicas. Tenía un don natural para animar a los demás, siempre encontrando la manera de mostrarles el lado bueno incluso en los momentos más difíciles.

Carmen deja en vida a su amado esposo de 45 años, Manuel Michel; a sus hijos Verónica Ramos y su esposo Fernando Ramos, Manuel Michel, Jr. y su esposa Joanna Michel, y Anthony Michel y su esposa Alejandra Michel; así como a sus queridos nietos Víctor, Marco, Salomé, Amado y Anthony II. También le sobreviven sus hermanos Fernando Guzmán, Teresa Rubio, José Guzmán, María Elena Guzmán, Patricia Guzmán, María Luisa Guzmán, Irma Guzmán, Rosalba Guzmán y Mario Guzmán.

 Fue precedida en muerte por sus padres Antonio y María Guzmán; sus hermanas Margarita, Guadalupe y Angelina; y su hermano Antonio.

 Carmen nació un 6 de enero en Guadalajara, Jalisco, donde creció junto a sus padres y sus 11 hermanos. Rodeada de ocho hermanas—más tarde conocidas cariñosamente como “Las Guzmán”, vivió una infancia llena de amor, unión y una pasión compartida por el baile. Criarse en una familia tan grande le enseñó desde pequeña la resiliencia y la independencia. Sus hermanas siempre la describían como “la aventada”: la valiente, la decidida, la que siempre daba el primer paso. Pese a los retos propios de un hogar lleno de vida, Carmen siempre se sintió profundamente amada y acompañada.

 A los 22 años, Carmen tomó la valiente decisión de perseguir el sueño americano y emigrar a los Estados Unidos. A menudo compartía esta historia con sus hijos, deseando que entendieran lo importante que eran para ella sus raíces y la responsabilidad de transmitirlas como parte de su legado. Su propio viaje dio forma a su empatía hacia quienes pasaban por experiencias similares. Muchas personas recuerdan con gratitud la ayuda que Carmen les brindó en los momentos en que más solos estaban.

 Con el tiempo, Carmen se estableció en Chicago, donde conoció a un joven encantador llamado Manuel Michel. Su conexión fue inmediata y profunda. Tras solo seis meses, se casaron en marzo de 1981 y comenzaron una hermosa vida juntos, fortalecida durante casi 45 años de matrimonio. Más adelante se mudaron a Houston, Texas, donde criaron a sus tres hijos y construyeron un hogar lleno de amor, fe y perseverancia.

 La vida en Houston fue Buena, llena de alegrías, y como cualquier vida, no exenta de desafíos que fortalecieron su espíritu. Carmen se sintió muy orgullosa de obtener su diploma de preparatoria y completar sus estudios de cosmetología, lo que la llevó a trabajar como consultora de belleza. Le encantaba crear relaciones, ayudar a otros a sentirse seguros de sí mismos y mantenerse al día con las tendencias de belleza. Después de tres décadas en Houston, Carmen y Manuel se mudaron a Bedias, Texas, donde ella disfrutó plenamente de la vida retirada y del ritmo tranquilo del campo, al cual aprendió a amar. 

La mayor alegría de la vida de Carmen llegó con la llegada de sus nietos: Víctor, Marco, Salomé, Amado y Anthony II. Ser abuela le trajo una felicidad inmensa, y abrazó ese rol con todo su corazón: cuidándolos, cosiéndoles ropa, organizando noches de pijamada llenas de risas y comida deliciosa, y estando siempre lista para ayudar con fiestas de cumpleaños, eventos escolares o excursiones. Carmen disfrutó a sus nietos con la misma intensidad con la que disfrutó criar a sus propios hijos.

 Fiel a su espíritu de generosidad, Carmen también fue donadora de órganos, dando incluso en los últimos momentos de su vida. Su riñón derecho fue donado a una mujer de 68 años de Texas, y su riñón izquierdo a un joven de 17 años también en Texas. A través de estos regalos, su compasión continúa viviendo, llevando esperanza y vida nueva a otros.

 Carmen estuvo siempre profundamente agradecida por su vida—una vida llena de experiencias significativas, una familia amorosa y muchos amigos queridos. Vivió verdaderamente una vida plena. Su calidez, fortaleza y generosidad vivirán en nuestros corazones para siempre.
