Candelaria Marines Gutierrez, 92, was born on January 31, 1933, in Rosebud, Texas, and entered eternal rest on August 23, 2025, in Houston, Texas.
Candelaria was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Renowned for her generous spirit, she was the type of woman who would readily give you the shirt off her back and never hesitated to assist those in need. She was affectionately called "Candy" due to her sweetness and kindness towards everyone around her.
She possessed a talent for cooking, an aptitude for gardening, and the skilled hands of a seamstress. From baby garments to wedding dresses to curtains, she infused love and care into every stitch, crafting pieces that embodied both beauty and significance. Although she never drove, she consistently found her way to her destinations—determined and self-sufficient.
Candelaria was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Marines and Fidencia De Leon; her beloved husband, Jose Juan Gutierrez; her daughter, Belinda Hernandez; her brother, Antonio Marines, Jr.; her sisters, Maria de Jesus Garcia, Manuela Matamoros, Juanita Medellin, and Esperanza Madrigal; and her grandson, Christopher Lozano.
She leaves behind her son, John Anthony Gutierrez; her daughters, Amalia Rosa Lozano (Rodolfo), Maria Angelica Kelley, and Ana Sylvia Rodriguez (Bartolo); her brothers, Miguel (Imelda), Arturo (Juanita), and Jesus Marines (Esther); her grandchildren, Nelva, Jennifer (Greg), Robyn (Aliya), Elena (Matt), Christina, Elizabeth, Andres, Ricky, and Mark (Yolanda); her great-grandchildren, Daisy, Brendan, Christian, Alexis (Raul), Andrew, Carina, Alivia, Gianni, Emilia, Mischa, Natalia, Eliott, Elias, Ethan, and Sofia; and her great-great-grandchildren, Jade, Jocelyn, Josiah, Julian, Juliana, and Annette. She also leaves behind many extended family members and a host of dear friends.
Candelaria will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her and share in the beautiful memories she created throughout her life.
“In lieu of flowers, the family of Candelaria Marines Gutierrez kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice supporting diabetes, pancreatic cancer, or multiple sclerosis research. Your generosity and support are deeply appreciated.”
