Beatriz R. Garza

Beatriz R Garza was born on July 29, 1926 to March 30, 2023, to Francisco Rodriguez and Francisca Suarez in Flint, Michigan.
She was our Matriarch, our Queen, and what defined her is the well-lived life the Garzas developed for their family. Together, Beatriz and Genaro Garza owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store where they prepared, and were known for, handmade delicacies such as barbacoa, menudo, salsa, pan de dulce, among other great foods. They were the first family to bring barbacoa and menudo to the neighborhood, and repeat customers were plentiful because the food was scrumptious! This small business venture would not have been as successful as it was were it not for Beatriz's entrepreneurial skills, her business acumen, and a devotion to her family. She was strong and strong-willed. While Genaro managed the stove and ovens, it was Beatriz who stood front and center with the City permit man, the tax man, and the banker!

Beatriz's passion for family is evidenced as she is honored as a "mother" for all of the Garza generations that followed hers. She was the Strength for all of us. Her strength and fortitude helped build a castle on a rock foundation that all of her family could call "home" at one point or another. She housed, she fed, she celebrated everyone, including in-laws and out-of-towners. She was the absolute core of our family and protected everyone.

Beatriz is survived by her children, Miguel Garza (Yolanda), Alicia Garcia, Ramiro Garza (Judy), Martha Gallison, Ricky Garza, Leticia Garza (Alfred Benavides), Robert Garza (Estella), Richard Garza, Jesse Garza, and Roger Garza. She had 30 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her husband, Genaro Miguel Garza Sr., her son, Genaro Garza Jr., and grandchildren Genaro James Garza, Richard Garcia Jr., & Lisa Camacho.
