Irma Medrano

Oct 29, 1936 ~ Mar 14, 2018

Irma was born in Houston, Texas to Maria Luisa Guerra and Carlos Saldana

on October 29, 1936, second to the youngest of 12 siblings. She was raised in Houston, San Antonio, Laredo, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico where she attended various religious boarding schools.

After graduation from high school, she attended Massey Business College where she took various secretarial courses. After a short stint in the office environment, she decided that was not the field for her and she turned to caring for children where she literally raised hundreds of children while their mothers pursued their dreams.

She easily fell in love with the innocence of these little ones and she became their second mother.

The biggest event in Irma's life was the birth of her son, Gabriel. From the day she first held him in her arms, he became the center of her life and you could say she dedicated all her life to loving, protecting and caring for him. She became a first time grandmother at 60 years of age starting all over again, helping to raise her grandson, Jake, putting herself second to give him a stable and loving upbringing to the best of her ability.

Irma was a nurturing person -  she adored her nephew Carlos and niece Claudia as her own.  She would often speak of her love for their children.  Irma was a very simple person and not necessarily well off monetarily. But she never wanted for luxuries - she preferred a butterfly or lady-bug pendant to a gold and diamond one. And what some might have considered her gifts trinkets, to her it was the significance of her love for them.

Irma was a young, vivacious 81 year old person when she was called up to be with her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2018 in Houston, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Till the very end she continued trying to ease her son's burdens that life brought. She did all her household chores, tended her garden and took care of her beloved pet chihuahua "Lola."

Irma asked no more of life. She was happy with what God had given her.  She will forever be missed by her son, grandson, sister, nephews and nieces as well as the intimate circle of cousins Norma and Cata (aka "sister" to. her.) She will also be remembered by her neighbors and friends who watched over her after the loss of her oldest sister, Carmen.  Irma will be dearly missed by all who shared wonderful memories with her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with a Rosary and Vigil at 7:00pm at the Compean Funeral Home Family Chapel.  Interment of Ashes will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00am in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
